Affiliate Disclosure

How this site is funded, what affiliate links are, and what that does — and doesn't do — to my reviews.

Short version: some of the links on toysreviews.net are affiliate links. If you click one and end up buying a subscription or product, I may receive a small commission from the merchant at no extra cost to you. That commission is how I'm able to spend the time testing every box for several months before publishing.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a regular link with a tracking parameter that tells the merchant the visit came from my site. If a purchase happens within the merchant's tracking window (typically 24 hours to 30 days, depending on the program), the merchant pays me a percentage of the sale.

You don't pay more because of an affiliate link. The price you see on the merchant's checkout page is the price you pay, with or without the link.

Which links on this site are affiliate links

The CTAs labeled "Explore the box," "View [brand]," and inline brand-name links inside review articles are affiliate-tracked when an affiliate program is available with that brand. Where a brand doesn't run an affiliate program, links go directly to the brand's site without tracking.

How this affects my reviews (and what doesn't)

Rankings, ratings, pros, cons, and verdicts are based on hands-on testing with my own kids and my own kitchen table. Affiliate commission rates do not influence rank order. I have, on multiple occasions, ranked higher-commission boxes below lower-commission boxes when the lower-commission box was the better product.

When a brand does not run an affiliate program at all, that brand can still appear in my reviews, including in the top spot. Affiliate availability is not a precondition for inclusion.

What I refuse

  • I don't accept payment in exchange for a positive review or a higher rank.
  • I don't accept editorial input from brands. They don't see drafts, suggest edits, or approve copy.
  • I don't run sponsored posts disguised as reviews. If a piece is sponsored, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored content and will not appear in ranked lists.

How testing is funded

Most subscriptions reviewed on this site were purchased at retail with my own money. A small number were provided by brands for review purposes; those are noted in the article when applicable. Whether a box was provided or purchased does not change how it's evaluated.
